One police sergeant who rushed to the help of a colleague who was ambushed by a blade-wielder received the King's Commendation for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a blade to the neck of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed the two Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Officer attacked," the constable stated over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashcam footage shared by the police department revealed Brown, wearing in black with a hood up, approach to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.

He collided with the officer who lost balance and fell to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and tried to wrestle him to the ground despite being multiple times hit with the blade.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a clear shot, bringing the fight to an finish.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get help on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained two open wounds to his neck and more injuries to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster suffered cut injuries.

The department reported Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stop his colleague's hemorrhaging before paramedics reached the scene.

This most recent honor comes after the law enforcement team were granted departmental Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the local union branch in early 2024.

They additionally received a Area Courage Honor in mid-2024.

"The actions of all three officers in the end rescued themselves and resulted in no civilians suffered any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, per authorities.
